1. The Challenge
Radiance Co. Ltd, a Sudanese solar engineering firm, was selected as a core implementing partner for the health facility solarization initiative funded by the Global Fund and implemented by UNDP. The project aimed to deploy reliable solar systems in health centers across multiple states in Sudan.
Radiance’s technical capability was proven. But in a crowded field of regional contractors, the company needed to differentiate itself not only as a vendor—but as a strategic, local partner. ADSI was brought in to sharpen that positioning.
“Donors believe in systems. Radiance needed to communicate its local knowledge, workforce impact, and long-term sustainability contribution—without overpromising or theatrics.”
2. Context
The solarization program was time-sensitive, high-impact, and operated in volatile zones. Radiance had:
-
Engineering capacity and teams on standby
-
Experience working in conflict-affected regions
-
A clear vision for community-based energy deployment
What it lacked was:
-
A design system for communicating its work
-
Strategy documents that met international tender standards
-
Visual storytelling that resonated with both funders and communities
3. ADSI’s Approach
Strategic Positioning
-
Defined Radiance’s edge as a Sudanese firm with deep field familiarity and training capacity
-
Differentiated it from larger, disconnected international firms that outsource labor or offer cookie-cutter systems
Communication Design
-
Created technical proposals with contextual framing and modular design
-
Developed tender annexes with performance visuals, timelines, and support plans
-
Designed a Value Add package: after-sales service, local workforce training, and system maintenance strategy
Visual Identity & Media
-
Produced a photo style using real Sudanese technicians under specific lighting palettes (green, yellow, purple)
-
Created minimalist, Sudan-centric infographics for donor use
-
Designed advocacy visuals to communicate project impact to the general public
4. Design Solutions

-
Internal Clarity: The process helped Radiance articulate and document its long-term field support model
-
Public Trust: Advocacy designs were adapted into campaign materials that resonated with Sudanese audiences
6. Reflections
Radiance didn’t need to be repackaged—it needed to be understood. Our job wasn’t to design a new identity but to amplify the one it already had: credible, capable, and deeply rooted in Sudanese terrain.
Design isn’t just for brands. It’s for field engineers, for communities, for systems that work quietly but save lives.
