Rayak: A Civic Prediction Platform for Collective Intelligence in Sudan

1. The Challenge

In Sudan’s polarized information environment, rumor often outpaces fact, and public sentiment is reactive rather than forward-looking. Traditional polling tools are distrusted or inaccessible, and most online discourse lacks structure or accountability.

ADSI asked:

“Can we build a digital space where Sudanese citizens engage with social, economic, and political scenarios through structured participation—not just commentary?”

The idea became Rayak (رأيك): a Sudan-focused, prediction-style platform that invites people to vote, reflect, and forecast on real issues—without relying on blockchain or tokens.

2. Context

Inspired by platforms like Polymarket and Metaculus, Rayak adapts the prediction market model into a civic format that:

  • Centers on Sudanese use cases

  • Uses Arabic-first UI and natural phrasing

  • Replaces speculation incentives with social insight incentives

  • Prioritizes collective learning over monetized prediction

ADSI wanted to design a product that combined:

  • The engagement of social voting apps

  • The structure of a forecast market

  • The relevance of a local news source

  • The usability of a simple poll

3. ADSI’s Approach

Product Strategy

  • Defined core purpose: a civil discourse tool that lets users participate in unfolding scenarios

  • Selected categories: economy, governance, conflict, diplomacy, society, civil protests

  • Avoided token-based systems and designed for non-financial participation

UX Design

  • Created a mobile-first, square-format interface inspired by cards and fluid timelines

  • Voting and commenting are presented side by side, with emphasis on clarity, not speed

Language & Identity

  • Chose the name “Rayak” (رأيك) meaning “Your Opinion”

  • UI and prompts were written in neutral, clear Arabic, designed to be accessible across dialects

  • Color identity aligned with the logo provided: grounded, trustworthy, civic-focused

AI Integration

  • Designed prompt formats for Lovable AI to:

    • Generate voting scenarios in Sudanese context

    • Translate news events into clear questions

    • Surface bias or ambiguity in phrasing

  • Configured the system to generate questions and suggest framing for admins and moderators

4. Design Solutions

  • A full no-token, no-login demo version for early engagement

  • Voting UI with outcome probabilities, comments, and timeframes

  • Admin interface for moderated scenario creation

  • Color palette and visual system aligned with local sensibilities

  • Future plans for score tracking, comment validation, and trend visualizations

5. Outcomes

  • Functional Concept Ready: Rayak is prepared for phased launch pending infrastructure

  • Culturally Rooted: Everything from language to framing is tailored to Sudanese sensibilities

  • Participation-Oriented: Designed to feel intuitive, non-elitist, and locally credible

  • AI-Assisted Pipeline: Lovable AI now outputs prompts, summaries, and question variations in Arabic

6. Reflections

Rayak sits at the intersection of digital civic space and strategic imagination. It’s not just a polling tool—it’s an attempt to democratize foresight, especially in places where people often feel powerless about what comes next.
